On The Black Nazarene Procession

The recent “fanatical” Black Nazarene procession is an eloquent demonstration of what people can do together if focused…

If only we have the same number of people focused to dredge the Pasig River once a month throughout the year!

If only we have the same number of people focused on going out to prevent the explosion of firecrackers during New Years Eve!

If only we have the same number of people focused on staying vigilant during the impeachment of Corona, the trials of the Arroyos, Abalos, Garcia, Ligot, Mendoza, Pichay, et al!

If only we have the same number of people during Sunday masses to confront their parish priests and fight for the Family Health Bill and focused to fight against pedophilia, the violations of their vows of poverty and chastity, and expose and oppose the corruption that has enveloped the CBCP; the churches of similar religious groups and organizations that likewise as similarly pester our people.

If only we have the same number of people throng the mosques of Islam where some of its leaders and members have made capital crimes as justified acts in their so-called “holy wars;” and churches, chapels and mansions of self-proclaimed Messiahs (read Manalo, Velarde, Quiboloy, Soriano, Villanueva, etcetera) who have amassed untold wealth and inflicted indescribable exploitation and misery toward their followers!

If only we have the same number of people pushing for progressive initiatives expanding democratic rights, equal opportunity and tolerance and accommodation for all — like the Right of Family and Marriage for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders; the Freedom of Information Act; Taxation of Religious Organizations; Clearer Demarcation Line between Church and State and other people-empowering ideas….

Ahhh, if only we have the the same number of people to assert the error and the impotence of the current class-basis of political power — and we have the same number to finally wake up to the reality that there is no God — and get focused to serve as vanguards in educating the rest of the masses of the same truths and realities!

Indeed, only the focused united action of people — our people — can lead us Filipinos to our own salvation from the crushing chaos and disorder, graft and corruption, teeming poverty and ignorance our country is steeped in…!
