Prayer: The Ultimate Delusion

Prayer: a devout petition to god or an object of worship. – Dictionary.com

Every religious and sometimes nonreligious person around the world has done it. It’s understandable, no one likes the feeling of being alone or weak. So they turn to whatever they believe God is and pray to him or her or whatever it is that particular person believes in. But what people don’t understand is that prayer is in fact the ultimate delusion that you’re talking to something that isn’t really there.

Sure we all like the idea that there is a God. And if he was good like everyone says he is then we’d probably have some of the things we need. So I get why people turn to a God for help and guidance. I completely understand. I wish there was a God, but the sad truth is that there isn’t. He, like prayer was just a concept that people invented thousands of years ago to explain how the universe got here.

Think about it, do you honestly believe that a Spirit can hear everyone murmur their thoughts and dreams to him/her all at once? But let’s suppose God does hear everyone all at once… why would he listen to you. I mean, he has a divine plan, so what if your prayer gets in the way of his plans? Then you don’t get the prayer you want. That is called, ‘God’s will’ to most Christians. So if it’s God’s will than why bother praying in the first place if he’s going to do whatever he wants anyway? Confusing much?

By now, 90% of the Christians that started reading this post have already exited the page. If you are the 5% that are rationalist then continue reading. And the other 5% that are Christians who haven’t exited the page, I must warn you that this Note is about to get much worse but I admire you for continuing to read it.

People instruct me to pray to God so I can get saved, to which I almost always say, “Pray to which God?” And I don’t mean, “Which God, I don’t see God, therefore he doesn’t exist!” I mean, which God? Jehovah? Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ who’s also the Holy Trinity? Jesus Christ that isn’t part of the Trinity? The Holy Spirit? The Virgin Mary? The countless Saints the Catholic Church has created? Zeus? Poseidon? The Egyptian Gods? The Flying Spaghetti Monster? Lucifer? Who? Which God(s) do I pray to?

Many Christians will say, Jesus… our Lord and savior. But society has created so many gods over the years, how do I know that I should be praying to Jesus Christ? How do I know that I shouldn’t pray to Zeus? After all, that God came before Jesus did… how do I know he isn’t the God that watches us from the Heavens? Now we’re all condemned for eternity because we believe Jesus is Lord and not Zeus. What about the Flying Spaghetti Monster? You think that’s ridiculous? So is a talking snake and people living in whales for three days.

Many would say, it’s my faith in God that I know he’s real. No it isn’t. It’s the stories that you were fed as a child that fuels your belief. Because I guarantee if I told you when you were a child that the Little Red Riding Hood story is true instead of Jesus, we would be debating about that instead. Now my question to you is why do you believe in some fairy tales and think Zeus and the Flying Spaghetti Monster are ridiculous?

I’ve also been asked occasionally, “What if you’re wrong? We’re gonna make it to heaven and you’re not.” To which I ask, “What if you’re wrong about Zeus and any of the other Gods that society has created over the years?” It’s interesting to note that we are ALL Atheist. Some of us, like me, just take it one God further.

It is also interesting to note that our former President who was a Christian that thought God told him to run for President… if God thinks Bush should run for President, I have no idea why you would believe in such a God… but anyway, George Bush did a lot of praying for the US Troops at war. Maybe a President who didn’t believe all our troops went to Heaven would’ve done a better job to get them out of the pointless wars that they were sent to. All the blood that was shed that didn’t need to be shed…

One last thing I’d like to add before I end this, which by now, the 5% have probably turned into 3%… haha… let’s imagine that ten cancer patients are all about to die… so each of their family and friends pray for them to continue living. Each of the ten families goes to different churches, all praying for each child. Nine of them die, one lives. The one that lives goes on to tell the church of his experience and how God saved him. God cured me, through the power of prayer… what about the other nine? Were they just not as worthy of God’s love as ‘that one kid’ [Marcos ;)]? Did God just not care about the others… but I thought God loved everyone…

Let’s say, that they were all worthy or let’s say some of the nine are in heaven, some are in hell. Why? Because it was God’s will. Again, God has a divine plan! Why are you praying for the cancer patient if it will interfere with God’s plan? There really is no point if God’s going to do whatever he wants… yet he tells us in the ‘good’ book that he will grant us our wishes. I know, confusing much?

Let’s forget about this ridiculous concept that was thought up by men. We have to for the survival and sanity of our future society. If you have a friend or family member that is dying, don’t pray for them. Instead, show them that you are there for them. That they are still both wanted and needed in this world, their mind will fight for survival if you do so. Why? It’s because we are ALL animals, and we need to be loved. I promise you that sticking by your loved ones side will do more for them than the ridiculous concept some of us continue to belief in.

    Go to; YouTube/George Carlin-Religion is bullshit,
    he makes the same points about prayer. with biting humor!

    I currently live in the bible belt of the Midwest. Cringe if you may, but the place that I live in has the most backward thinking when it comes to solving the state problems. The senator when asked how they can alleviate the economy, instead of finding ways for proper budget management and adding more jobs, he formed a prayer group.

      Did mana start raining from the sky since they formed the prayer group Sasha? LOL I am just damn curious.

    Your story above lack hard reasons. Your reasonings are flimsy. You don’t explain about miracles especially mentioned in the Bible.
    Fate in God is the reason why we believe. For example; I have a “fate” in you that you have a “brain”. I don’t see your brain. How it looks like or smell it. Your reasoning, opinion, or whatever it is comes from your brain. And I respect it.
    Or else, without such FATE, for me you are brainless!…

      Biblical miracles can easily be dismissed as there are no evidence to back it up.
      FAITH is believing absolutely in something without proof. Which is contrary to critical thinking.

      I may not be able to SEE my brain or yours for that matter but I can easily have my brain scanned and this will serve as evidence to support the existence of said brain.
      Another method I could do (provided it is not a criminal offense) is bash your skull with a hammer and when it cracks I can then dip my hands in your cranium and take out your brain. Again, this is proving existence.

      Your brain argument is rather weak. For if SEEING is the basis by which you believe in something then have you ever SEEN your god?

        Is it Faith or Fate? I think this guys messing his head too much with things unseen…. tsk, poor being.

      That is simply illogical, just go to a neurologist and have your brain scanned in a MRI scanner. Let us just say I have a little man in my pocket, I want to show it to you, but if I show it to you it will be invisible, will you still believe that this little man exists? If it is only faith that you made you believe in God, then it is no different than believing that a unicorn exists.

  4. Wisdom says:

    During the ancient times, prayer is a tool of political control of priests and kings over the people. The pharaoh who is a man and a god often become an object of worship that people pray to thus the act of praying creates attachment. Also, the biblical priesthood are paid with animals to pray to Yahweh for them to be absolved of crimes like murder, rape and robbery.. The Romans also demand payment for them to pray for military favors which they can use later as propaganda. Since a human beings can have a lot of problems, prayer is a good source of both economic and political control.

    @Jonathan, thanks for a good read. ^^
    I love the mention of the The Flying Spaghetti Monster.
    I totally agree with you. Too bad, not all people have the IQ capable of comprehending a logical reasoning like this… uhmmm… what can I say, they’re dumb. Lolz…
    @Edgar, i’m 100% sure you’re referring to “Faith” and not “fate”. ^^
