When I was young I used to believe in the talking snake and the burning bush. I pray to God everyday to thank Him for all the blessings that I received. But as I grew up, I began to doubt the teachings and even the existence of God. I read the bible, thinking it will solve my doubts, but then it turned out it gave me more doubts than answers. I began to have questions, such as: Why does God need to use a plague to rescue the Israelites out of Egypt? Why does God need blood? Why can’t he make a blood air to please Himself?
How am I supposed to believe in what the bible says if I didn’t even know the author? Now that I know that there is no talking snake, no unicorn, the great flood, or of the stories in the bible. I even don’t believe that Jesus existed, because as I read the bible, I see contradictions and immorality, like: Is it moral to say that the sins of everyone is forgiven just because of the death of a person? Is it moral to use your powers so that everyone will be helped? Can’t you leave it to the doctors?
I looked for other gods, but it seemed I can’t find any evidence. I believe what Richard Dawkins said, that evidence is only the reason to believe in something. No evidence? No talking snake or God.
Religion tries to explain how we got here using made up stories. It is only in religion where you can find the concept of “eternal life”. As long as religion is here, people will not see the true beauty of this world. It keeps you from using reason and logic and encourages you to accept claims without fact.

If we had to depend on a proven scientific explanation for the Universe it would not exist. Therefore:
SCIENCE IS NOT GREAT!!!
Either that, or there is no universe…
(What else exists that science has no answer for???).
“SCIENCE IS NOT GREAT!!!”

Can you elaborate your claim. You’re begging the question here.

Here you are using the technologies made possible because of Science. Posting your opinion in a forum through your computer which was invented because of Science and Research. And you dare say it’s not great?!
Science does not claim to know everything but it sure is finding out answers to most (if not all) questions asked by man.
What is religion’s contribution to man’s advancement pray tell?

because the foundation of religion is faith… and faith is a non-thinking process.

it is all the contemporary religions’ trump card: faith. if religion A ask you to have faith, then they win over any argument. How about religion B who demands faith as well, would they be over the former, or are they as desperate as the other?

Its totally Okay if we could not find all the answers to most our questions. Its totally Okay, if Science accepts its limitations, for now.
What is not OK is for us to settle that everything that we see was made by a supreme being using a hokus pokus magic and by his words ‘let there be..’
To continously believe in magic is to remain a kid forever.
There will be answers backed by evidence, if not now in the near future.. lot of great scientists are working on it.. we just need to wait.
Lucky are our children for they will be enligthened!!

“Reasoning ends where faith begins.”
I think believing God or not is all a matter of perspective, of how you look on things being said and preached by the Church.
The main problem I think why people become doubtful is on how the people painted God on the Scripture and self righteous preachings.
I am not an atheist, but I’m not a firm believer on the Catholic dogmas either. I believe in a God who created all these wonderful things, but not in a conditional God described by the Bible. I do not believe the idea that there is no God since there is so much pain and suffering in the world but I believe that there is a God who gave us free will that’s why we have no one to blame and praise but ourselves for all happenings in our life. I believe that there is a Being who was bored and cooked a Big Bang and left it at that, forever overseeing how each life and molecule interact but not doing any intervention since He knows He selected the perfect ingredients and it’s all a matter of relativity. Let me just ask a simple question: Are we really seeking the presence of God or His absence?

Jumper are you a deist or a pantheist? Try checking this website if you are a pantheist. http://www.pantheism.net/ I don’t know a website on deism, maybe you can search one.

Wow, I haven’t even thought out that far but I Googled both terms and now I can label myself as deist, I think. :)

Deism reminds me of how Richard Dawkins referred it to as a watered down Atheism. No offense, because sometimes i thought i am a deist as well. but i am a Pantheist

i believe that if someone’s a freethinker, he/she shouldnt be seeking anything. as per CSI, we dont put our hopes to evidence. :\

Would that mean you would not seek knowledge for the truth? If we don’t put our hopes to evidence, then what reason do we have to believe in things?
